Volume 2: 2008, pp. 41-68; ABSTRACT
The Beer Distribution Game is a popular classroom exercise for demonstrating material and information flows in a supply chain that dramatically impresses students with the bullwhip effect. This paper presents a spreadsheet simulation that supplements the game to teach the impact of ordering strategies and time delays on inventory and backlogs in a way that is accessible to undergraduates, graduate students, and practitioners with minimal mathematical sophistication.
