Supply Chain Management/Global Logistics and Real Estate studies in business schools are typically found in separate departments with no direct links between the professors and/or the students. However, the two fields are closely intertwined, and in the case of industrial and retail real estate, many markets are dependent on the decisions made by the professionals in global logistics. This paper provides an overview of a short (one week in-country) study abroad course delivered by the College of Charleston to expose students studying in one area to the importance of the other using Panama and the Panama Canal as a living laboratory. The program includes lectures by global transportation and real estate experts, as well as on-site visits. The course structure provides value-added experiences for students that could be replicated by other educators at universities around the world where similar synergies exist between the transportation and real estate industries.
