Mr. Rajesh Jain, General Manager of Operations at JSW Steel Coated Products Limited Mumbai, India, had been tasked to design an internal logistics plan for expansion. Before designing the new plan, he wanted to conduct a detailed analysis of the current internal logistic activities of the company. The challenge ahead was to calculate the minimum number of trucks required for both procurement and dispatch for a hassle-free movement within the plant. He also had to determine the number of trucks required per day to dispatch FG via roadways to work out the contractual agreement with the transport service provider. Finally, he also had to identify the stations within the plant that needed expansion to ensure seamless movement of material. This case can be used to teach process flow analysis; identify and eliminate capacity constraint/s in the process; and conduct resource planning.
