Project Management is a growing topic in business management courses and establishing a clear statement of a project at an early stage is fundamental for achieving success. Instructors need pedagogical materials at both MBA and undergraduate levels for students to explore implications of cognitive biases and bounded rationality (Simon 1955, Hilbert 2012) as well as the affective interplay between people and projects as a whole. This teaching brief presents an active-learning exercise based on a real project named “The Super Formula to Fight Cancer” in a hospital. It involves a two-minute video and team interactions. It aims to provide instructors the opportunity to highlight how, despite being rapidly involved in a given new project, students and practitioners might find it hard to come up with a simple project statement. The exercise illustrates the importance of establishing a clear statement at an early stage.
