This case study details the events that occurred in 2005 when a multinational bank
based in Mumbai, India tried to put in place a radically revised compensation package for its employees, both managerial and
non-managerial. The objective of the exercise was straightforward – the bank wanted to attract the best talent and at the same
time retain its employees. The compensation package was developed without the input or buy-in from the employees and with little
review by upper management. The case details the events subsequent to the launch of the new compensation package for the employees
in India. The discussion focus of the case is the importance of open communications for the management of change, and cross
cultural sensitivity.
