Given the need for business students to understand the global context of business, this study examines study abroad options looking at whether U.S. educational institutions offer enough programs, and the right types of programs to meet the needs of their students, examining also whether there are systematic differences between AACSB accredited and non-AACSB accredited schools. A second study examines the impediments to studying abroad from the point of view of business students. Results demonstrate that current programs only satisfy a small fraction of the students. While business-focused short programs contributing to the academic degree best satisfy the needs of business students, there are few of these programs. To encourage educators to address this gap, we discuss specific benefits that can be gained by creating business-focused short study abroad programs. Suggestions for creating such programs and for future research are included.
