Weber Kitchen Supplies (Weber) is the name of a 4-year-old small-medium-sized enterprise (SME), founded and based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). It mainly specializes in custom-made kitchen supplies for upscale villas and high-end condominiums. All sales are made per the individual client’s order and customized to meet the customer’s taste and space. The case provides an insight into the managerial style of an owner-manager of a SME within the context of the business environment of Dubai, UAE. It highlights how owner-manager’s decisions can undermine the success of the enterprise and how the perception of the owner’s success may not match the reality of the business performance. The case is designed to challenge readers to understand the problems which can arise when there is an absence of reliable financial and managerial reports, and additionally how issues within the ethical environment can lead to further complications. It is based on a real world set of situations. However, names and detailed descriptions of the industry along with the individuals employed have been changed to maintain confidentiality.
