Volume 12: 2017, pp. 197-212; ABSTRACT
This paper presents a theoretically justified teaching strategy that has been successfully implemented for utilizing technology to enhance and facilitate student learning in a Costa Rican study abroad program. Students participating in this program have restricted access to Internet services. This “partial unplugging” allows for a controlled usage of technology aimed primarily at student learning. Through the use of blogging in a unique country setting, technology can be utilized without jeopardizing the cultural immersion of the study abroad experience. The Costa Rican model is presented.
