Volume 10: 2015, pp. 5-20; ABSTRACT
This paper presents selected results from a survey of AACSB-accredited business schools’ progress in internationalizing their curricula in view of a recent AACSB report. In the 2011 report, AACSB criticized business programs for not coordinating internationalization activities in a strategic manner to improve courses and develop skills international managers need. The report also states that business schools must adopt a mission-driven, strategic approach to internationalization instead of the ad hoc, opportunistic approach found among many schools participating in the study. In our survey of AACSB-accredited schools, we present data comparing institutions reporting that their internationalization efforts were mission-driven versus those that did not base such efforts on the school’s mission. We find a number of important areas in which international mission-driven schools seem to be doing a more complete job of internationalization, lending credence to the efficacy of basing such efforts on the school’s mission and a systematic and strategic approach.
