Studium Sustainale: Proposal of a Foundational, Extracurricular Context-Study Course Bringing Together Business Ethics and Sustainability
Peter Seele
USI, Switzerland
Volume 12: 2015, pp. 41-56: ABSTRACT
The article discusses the link between business ethics education (BEE) and sustainability. It is argued that BEE could learn from engineering education how to integrate the concept of sustainability particularly stressing the needs of future generations. The BEE curriculum-debate of stand-alone course vs. curricular infusion serves as a starting point and the third way of extracurricular context-studies works as a framework to suggest a foundational course combining BEE and sustainable development. The aim is to apply the concept of "transformative learning" as established in sustainable development teaching to the proposed. It is suggested that foundational context-study courses could act as a low-entry-threshold for colleagues from other business disciplines into both sustainability and business ethics.
