Management Development Institute, India
Volume 3: 2010, pp. 13-24; ABSTRACT
The case deals with a restructuring that took place in an Indian business house in 1993 which led to two young family members, Alok and Vijay Mathur, unexpectedly inheriting two businesses. They were faced with a huge challenge of managing two fairly complex businesses that they were unfamiliar with. As Alok and Vijay settled into their roles, one of the most difficult situations they faced was in managing Shivkumar, the Executive Director of their bigger and more profitable business. The case focuses on a car allocation incident and brings out the issues of identity, role and role transitions.
