Embedding The Office into an Introductory OB Course: Developing a Macrocontext for Student Engagement and Comprehension

Volume 11: 2018, pp. 51-62; ABSTRACT
Although the use of popular media as a teaching tool in introductory Organizational Behaviour (OB) classrooms is relatively common, these tools are normally used on a one-off basis. Because students new to OB often have trouble integrating the disparate concepts into a comprehensive whole, this paper argues it may be more beneficial to use a television program to develop a macrocontext. Embedding The Office as an ongoing case study in the classroom provides this umbrella situation that allows students to build on prior learning as the course proceeds, assisting in both engaging the student and demonstrating the interconnection of OB concepts.
